The inaugural meeting of the African Paediatric Critical Care Association took place in Cape Town during August 2008, and was attended by representatives from South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Mocambique, Kenya, Malawi, Uganda and the DRC. Members of the WFPICCS executive board were also present.
The Association aims to bring together people with an interest in the care of critically ill or injured neonates or children across the African continent, with an initial focus to:
establish the resources currently available for the care of critically ill or injured neonates or children across sub-Saharan Africa
develop a resource base of skills; expertise; educational material and courses; training opportunities etc that could be accessed in order to improve critical care services across the region
facilitate research that will provide understanding of paediatric critical care in Africa, and establish how care can be improved using the resources available.
Anyone with an interest in the Association could contact Prof Andrew Argent (andrew.argent@uct.ac.za) or Mr Dominique Uwizeyimana (dominique.uwizeyimana@uct.ac.za) for further information
