A call for global action from the 70th World Health Assembly as it adopts the resolution on sepsis

The 70th World Health Assembly (WHA) adopted the resolution – ‘Improving the prevention, diagnosis and management of sepsis’, yesterday during its meeting in Geneva, Switzerland.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has called for global action to fight and reduce the burden of sepsis which kills 6 million people annually, more than 3.5 million of them children.

In addition, the WHO has pledged £3.5million into a campaign to raise awareness of sepsis around the world, including persuading its 194 member countries to always treat sepsis as an emergency.

A concerted effort is needed and WFPICCS, together with its members and the global health community, will work jointly in addressing the key actions of the resolution to reduce the unacceptable number of children dying from sepsis worldwide.
